About Movie and Production
In 2018, Marvel Studios released "Black Panther," a superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The film, directed by Ryan Coogler and co-written by Joe Robert Cole, stars Chadwick Boseman as T'Challa / Black Panther, with Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong'o, and many more great actors.
T'Challa succeeds his father as King of Wakanda, but his reign is challenged by Killmonger (Jordan), who wants to end the country's isolationist policies and launch a global revolution.
It might interest you to know that Wesley Snipes attempted to develop a Black Panther picture in 1992, and in 2005, Marvel Studios identified a Black Panther film as one of 10 projects based on Marvel characters that will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
The project was announced in October 2014, and Boseman debuted as the character in "Captain America: Civil War" in 2016.
"Black Panther" was the first Marvel Studios picture to include a Black director and an all-Black ensemble. From January to April of 2017, the main filming took place in Atlanta and Busan, South Korea.
"Black Panther" gained critical accolades upon its premiere for its director, script, acting, costume design, production values, and soundtrack. It was widely regarded as one of the best films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe by critics. It earned more than $1.3 billion worldwide and shattered multiple box office records, making it the highest-grossing film directed by a Black filmmaker and the ninth-highest-grossing film of all time.
The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, won three of them, and received numerous additional honors. It was the first superhero film to be nominated for Best Picture and the first MCU film to win multiple awards.
Overview
T'Challa, the heir to Wakanda's hidden but developed kingdom, must step forward to lead his people into a new future and face an adversary from his country's past.
Plot Summary
The film "Black Panther" portrays T'Challa, the recently anointed king of Wakanda, a technologically superior African kingdom that is concealed from the rest of the world. As T'Challa returns home, he faces internal threats to his leadership in Wakanda. T'Challa joins forces with CIA operative Everett K. Ross and the Dora Milaje to prevent a worldwide war when two foes plot to destroy Wakanda.
Wakanda's origin begins thousands of years ago, with five African tribes warring over a vibranium-containing meteorite. After swallowing a heart-shaped herb infused with the metal and attaining superhuman skills, one warrior becomes the first Black Panther. He unites the tribes together to build Wakanda and uses vibranium to develop sophisticated technology while pretending to be a Third World country.
T'Challa returns to Wakanda following his father's death and is challenged for the throne by M'Baku. T'Challa overcomes M'Baku, but he is confronted with a greater challenge when Ulysses Klaue and Erik Stevens steal a Wakandan item. T'Challa, Okoye, and Nakia fly to Busan to stop Klaue and discover that Wakanda's sophisticated technology serves as a decoy for the rest of the world. Erik, popularly known as Killmonger, aspires to the throne and provides Wakandan weapons to spies worldwide.
Nakia harvests a heart-shaped plant and cures T'Challa after Killmonger kills Zuri, injures T'Challa, and throws him over a waterfall. T'Challa and Killmonger fight for the throne, and T'Challa wins. He sets up an outreach center to be led by Nakia and Shuri, disclosing Wakanda's true identity.
T'Challa appears before the United Nations in a mid-credits scene, and Shuri assists Bucky Barnes with his rehabilitation in a post-credits scene. "Black Panther" is a narrative of power, betrayal, and leadership, set against the backdrop of a hidden nation with superior technology and a distinct cultural tradition.
